Jack Payne, Ph.D.

payne Jack Payne is the senior vice president for agriculture and natural resources at the University of Florida. As administrative head for the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, he is the leader of the discovery and innovation arm of Florida agriculture. He speaks and publishes widely on the essential role land-grant universities play in meeting the grand challenge on which the Challenge 2050 Project focuses. He not only has dedicated IFAS resources to its success, but he has cultivated national and international support for the project. Dr. Payne has 4,000 employees across the state of Florida and throughout the world who seek sustainable ways to produce food while protecting the environment that makes agriculture possible. He is a champion for the science that will allow the world to innovate its way to feeding the world of 2050 in the face of climate change, shrinking agricultural acreage, and a tightening water supply.
