Study Abroad

Interested in traveling to the world’s 5th most populous city with an exceptional group of change makers? We love traveling the world and gaining new perspectives with our students, join us!

Check out an excerpt from our awesome adventures during our 2015 trip over seas: “After developing an uncomfortably full tummy, we rushed to meet with the Departemento de Alimentaçáo Escolar – a social service program whose mission is to provide fresh and nutritious food for the school children of São Paulo. With open arms these amazing people invited us into their organization and began to show us how they feed 1 million children 2 million meals during the school day. From organic rice to fruits and vegetables she told us how much work she puts into making sure these children are not only fed, but also fed in a nutritional way. Sparking another flame in everyone’s hearts, we returned back to the house to reflect new inventive ideas and think of ways we can return to the US and help create an easier way to improve the system…

Q: I’m not a student in CALS can I still participate?
A: We are open to students of all majors and levels at the University and welcome students from other institutions!

Q: How does credit work with study abroad?
A: Each trip is set-up as a 3 credit-hour class. You will have on-campus classes to help you prepare for the trip before departure and a few after you return in the States. You do not take classes in country but receive hands-on, one-on-one instruction with Challenge 2050’s Director and get the opportunity to interact with change makers in the Brazilian and African communities.

Q: Can I go on both trips?
A: Yes! We alternate our trips every summer so you can experience both countries and get 3 credit hours per trip.

Q: Is there a language requirement?
A: We provide a group translator for the duration of the trip.

Q: Is it safe?
A: We love to take risks with our education but not with our students. We follow the United States Travel Guidelines and Embassy announcements.

Q: What does the cost include?
A: Cost includes a translator, activities, meals, housing and in-country transportation. It does not include airfare.

Q: I’m so excited about the trip. What’s next?
A: Complete a UF IC Application and set up a meeting with Challenge 2050!
