Through partnerships with industry leaders, our interns gain practical skills while contributing to meaningful projects.
Internship Opportunities
HM.Clause Interns Program
A flagship internship experience in partnership with HM.Clause, a global leader in vegetable seeds. Interns work alongside industry professionals on projects that connect agricultural innovation with global food security.
WeMAP Initiative
The WeMAP (Water, Energy, Monitoring, and Planning) initiative places students in interdisciplinary teams tackling resource management challenges. Interns contribute to data collection, analysis, and community-based solution design.
How the Internship Program Works
Internships are designed as a natural extension of the Challenge 2050 certificate coursework. Students who have completed foundational courses — including ALS 2410 (Global Uncertainty) and ALS 3415 (Developing Tools for Changing the World) — are well-prepared to step into these roles. Each internship emphasizes:
- Practical application of adaptive leadership frameworks
- Mentorship from faculty and industry professionals
- Exposure to global challenges such as feeding a growing population, clean energy, and sustainable resource use
- Collaboration across disciplines and cultures
Challenge 2050 internships are designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world impact. Students step beyond the classroom to tackle pressing global issues alongside experienced professionals in fields ranging from sustainable agriculture to clean energy and social innovation. These immersive experiences cultivate adaptive leadership skills, teaching participants how to navigate complexity, collaborate across disciplines, and make informed decisions under real pressure. Interns emerge not just with enhanced resumes, but with a deeper understanding of what it takes to drive meaningful change in a connected world. The program emphasizes hands-on problem-solving, ensuring that every assignment contributes directly to projects that matter.
Partnerships with industry leaders and mission-driven organizations give Challenge 2050 interns access to mentorship and project-based learning that is rare at the undergraduate level. Whether working on food system innovations, urban sustainability initiatives, or community development strategies, interns become active contributors to solutions that address the defining challenges of our era. This exposure helps students clarify their own career paths while building a professional network grounded in shared purpose. The experience is designed to be transformative, encouraging young leaders to think globally while acting locally, and to carry the principles of social responsibility forward into whatever field they choose to pursue.
The internship experience is structured to be both supportive and demanding, with faculty guidance and peer collaboration woven into the fabric of each placement. Interns are encouraged to ask hard questions, test creative approaches, and reflect on their growth as emerging change-makers. Regular check-ins and cohort-based learning create a community of practice where students learn from one another as much as from their supervisors. By the end of the program, participants have developed the confidence and capacity to lead initiatives of their own. Challenge 2050 internships are not just a line on a resume—they are a formative step toward a lifetime of engaged, responsible leadership.
